So what is so great about Christianity?

I wonder what you would say if why you were asked why you were a Christian. Let me actually ask you; Are you a Christian because you were born in it or you are a Christian because it is true? That is the big question that I like to ask people sometime. I actually normally ask people why they are in their religions and you should try it out some day too! How one answers that question influences how they view other religions.

If you say you are a Christian because you were born in it then for you Christianity is just a matter of taste and you are not bothered by what other people believe. But if you are a Christian because it is true, then the result is you believe it is not only true for you but for everybody else and that is going to get you out of your comfort zone in order to try to make it known to others. I for one am a Christian because it is true. Christianity is the only reasonable faith one can have. I think that all other religions are either blind faith (belief without evidence) or unreasonable (Belief despite evidence to the contrary).

I and many (you should be included too) believe that Christianity is the only reasonable faith because there is evidence to support it. But you might ask how I know that. You might be wondering where evidence is for the truthfulness of Christianity? There are a lot of areas we can discuss but am just going to give you one which is the most important one. With this one you can know whether a religion is true or not.

And it is this;

The nature of Man! What does that religion say about human beings? You will tell if a religion is true if it gives you a right view of who Man is and this view must correspond to reality namely what we know to be true about Humans. Here is what we know about human beings;

You see Human beings are a walking contradiction! I do not know if you have notice this but we as Human beings have the potential of greatness and at the same time have the potential of great wretchedness. We are sort of Angles and Devils at the same time. Your best friends can self sacrifice themselves for you but they are the very same people who can betray you. 

In connection to animals, you can say we have the potential to soar above all animals by doing things animals cannot do but at the same time we are the very same ones who are capable of doing things animals cannot do. We are the only ones who can dominate this earth, bend its knees to make it do what we want for our benefit, this thing animals cannot do! But at the same time we are the very same ones who can do things animals would never dream of doing. This is an apparent contradiction which is true in all of us! I have the ability to do good things for my country, family and God but am the very same one who can to the most wretched things and this goes for you and all of us. Human beings are sort of Kings in this world but without a crown. We are like a speck of dust but at the same time very significant. Though we a glorious creature, we happen to have stains that everyone can see. We are a white clean sheet that happens to have a stain in the middle. We are the shame and glory of the universe! When we soar high up, we really go up; just look at all the technological and scientific advances we have. But when we go down, we really go down even beneath animals. Our depravity is an everyday obvious fact that everyone can see.

So because we know of this apparent contradiction, a true religion that claims to be from the true God must be able to teach us these two facts; our greatness and our wretchedness, because they are both true, it must give us and explanation and also suggest a solution. Any religion that tries to avoid any of these two sides of man is not being entirely truthful. I only know of one religion that can do that. Christianity teaches these two facts and actually offers an explanation for the apparent contradiction and then a solution. All others religions in the world will either teach you that you are basically bad, there is nothing good in you, you are not unique, you are just genes or like the Nazis in Hitler`s Germany used to say; just Blood and Soil! Or they will teach you that you are so good, that there is nothing wrong with you. Splitting these two things is not truthful and is a lack of serious consideration of the evidence.

Christianity teaches that we are great because we were made in the image of God; that God has shared some of his characteristics with us namely morality, Love, Language and creativity, but on the other hand it also teaches that we are flawed because of the fall of Adam and Eve and thus very sinful. Christianity thus explains our problem but also offers a solution in Christ Jesus. Because of our greatness, Jesus was willing to put on human flesh and come to take care of our imperfection by dying on the cross for us all and thus reconciling us back to God. He redeems the image of fallen humanity, a soiled image he cleaned up with his blood. That is why I am a Christian and so are you. This thing is not a matter of taste but rather a matter of truth! Every creature everywhere in this world is obligated to believe in Jesus and thus convert to Christianity and therefore it is the responsibility of all Christians to make it known!
