Jesus, the Man who borrowed everything.
Borrowing is not the preferred way of life for any human beings on the face of this earth. People under normal circumstances would not prefer to borrow from others because it is a very inconveniencing thing to the borrower and the borrowee (I hope that word even exists, but if not, allow me now to invent it). It wounds one`s pride because it displays them as lacking something to the other party. It shows our vulnerability.
Because of this am surprised to learn that when God was here, He actually borrowed everything to live among us as a Human. Jesus, the word of God who was with God from the beginning of time borrowed Mary`s womb when he was coming to Earth from Heaven`s throne. He borrowed human flesh so he could look like us and be just as ordinary as anybody else. He borrowed a human ancestry through King David so he could have a right to the kingship of Israel. He borrowed a stable in Bethlehem in which to be born.
He borrowed a Human Family to be raised like any child. Birds have nest and foxes have holes but the Son of man had nowhere to lay his head; He many times borrowed a place to stay; up someone`s mountain several times or a friend’s house sometimes (Lazarus and Martha`s.) And one time he rested in a borrowed Boat. Many times he borrowed lunch for himself and his disciples and on two occasions borrowed fishes and loaves, blessed them and multiplied them thus feeding multitudes.
At the beginning of his public ministry in the synagogue of Nazareth, he borrowed a Bible to read to them Isaiah 61 and told them that certain verses had been fulfilled that very day. He borrowed boats in which to travel and sometimes for preaching purposes. He also borrowed the temple for his itinerant preaching every time he was in Jerusalem. He ounce borrowed a coin to illustrate the necessity of all People devoting their lives to God just as they should do when it comes to taxes. He borrowed many local Jewish illustrations and stories to make his point while he taught in Parables.
On his last visit to Jerusalem, He borrowed an ass and a colt for his triumphant entry into Jerusalem as people sung Hosanna, save now, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. He borrowed the Garden of Gethsemane to pray many times; to have some solitary time with his Father in Heaven. He borrowed our tears when he wept at the tomb of Lazarus.
And most importantly….. he borrowed our Sins for a season!!!
This was the primary business that brought him. He borrowed our pain and suffering. On the cross he drank up all our sins, the cup of the wrath of God he drunk all alone. He was forsaken of many and despised by many. Some said “he trusted in God so let him help him. He saved others himself he cannot save. If he be the son of God let him come down and we will believe him” But how could he get off the cross? If he did we would all be damned! Then he finally borrowed death!
After his death he borrowed Joseph of Arimathea`s Family grave for only three days, left our sins under and rose in victory!
In conclusion I will borrow from the poem about Him called a one solitary life;
“ all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.” Christ Jesus our Lord! God so loved the world that he lent us his Son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life!
