If Jesus is God, how can God die? Because the Bible says He did!!

I was conducting a youth meeting one Saturday at Church and we were going through a series about God and trying to understand who God is and what our relationship with Him is like. In the middle of the conversation, one member threw two related questions at me; “Is Jesus God?” I said yes! And he replied with this question “Can God die?”  Now even though it was not part of the day`s talking points I gave him a very short answer anyway. Here is what I said, “if it is possible for God to put on a human flesh, then He can die.” That was sort of a short answer which am not sure sufficed the fellow or the other members present so today I would like to give an extended answer because I am sure he is not the only one struggling with issues such as these.  It is true that Evangelical/Biblical Christianity teaches that Jesus is the son of God. That He is from God and therefore He is God the Son or to put it bluntly He is God incarnate (God in Human flesh). On the other hand Chr...

We, the dwelling place of God.

The Garden of Eden was some sort of tabernacle where God dwelt with man in the beginning. God and Man related in a holy and perfect relationship as the angels and all the animals, and the birds and plants and insects and germs beheld what seemed to be a loved slated for eternity. God was man`s friend indeed and man`s neighbor as well. He came down frequently from heaven to visit and to see how his best friend was doing. He lavished him with all good things and a wife!! The cherubim and all the holy angels roamed around the garden in playful fashion as the rivers and the lakes and the trees roared with everlasting Joy. But of course things changed after the fall, man was driven out of the garden and God departed back to heaven. Love between man and God was lost and Eden was lost as well. After the redemption of Israel from Egypt, God instructed Moses to build a tabernacle where man would find God. This tabernacle was a semi-permanent structure. It was of makeshift kind and was tran...

Before we blame the Devil, let`s…. (Part Two)

We last time started talking about not blaming the devil for all our issues especially when it comes to how we behave (Morality). People have gotten things confused and want to place blame on the way things are in their lives to the devils and do not stop to reflect on themselves and see whether the problem begins with them. You see Africans have a tendency of thinking that all their problems come from outside of themselves; if one has no Job, there is a spirit preventing them from getting one. But one does not stop to reflect on themselves; to see what qualifications they have, to read through and see how well prepared their Resumes are. They do know think about how many Jobs are out there as compared to the number of Job seekers. They do not look at how they present themselves to potential employers. If one cannot get a spouse to enter into marriage with, then there is a spirit preventing them from getting one. One does not stop to reflect on themselves and see how they present ...

Before we blame the Devil, let`s…. (Part One)

To borrow a phrase of King Solomon from his book about life Ecclesiastes, I have found an “evil” among Africans; both Christians and non-Christians. This “evil” is in religious people and pagans. Africans tend to blame all their problems on the spiritual realm. They tend to deflect their responsibility for their inadequacies on the working of the unseen forces in the air. Now please don`t get me wrong, am not saying that the spiritual world does not exist neither am I saying that the Devil and demons do not influence the courses of events in our lives. All am going to say is that lets have a complete pictures of ourselves and the world around us. As a Christian I believe and know that there is such a thing as the spiritual realm because the Bible tells me so and I engage in spiritual warfare every day of my life. But also as an African, experience living in the black continent has taught me that there is another world out there, a world that is separate from this physical one we...

Sin and sins, any difference?

Ask anybody randomly on the streets of Kampala whether they have heard of the words, Sin and sins, and nearly all will acknowledge they have has heard them before. The words are in our vocabularies and they show up in our speeches too. Ugandans are religious for the most part and they frequently show up in Churches and hear a sermon ounce in a while that includes either of these words or both. The trouble is few people clearly understand the true meaning of either of these words and yet without these two, nobody can genuinely become a follower of Christ. And also one cannot possibly understand what the Christian life is all about unless they understand these two. Most preachers do not know these, they do not understand and many just do not talk about them. So if the Shepherd in the pulpit does not know, then the sheep in the pew won’t either! Many Christians even within evangelical circles (Born-agains) talk about sin but also have not so clear a view of sin and no wonder our gosp...
